Darren, this is amusing this video just came on since my girlfriend just left out since I was on the pad. Im trying to figure a way to bring in extra money. Anyway, what type of video camera is this? Also, are you using any special lighting or video software?

Hey Darren, fantastic video. So many people forget or don’t realize the business behind a website or blog, time management is so vital, if you don’t manage your time effectively you just get lost and will never be productive.

Cool stuff!, I’m thinking of placing a video on my blog. Would be a cool edition to my animation series… Problogger is an awesome website!… :]

COol stuff, I know what you mean, I gotta go soon so I can focus on my blogging.

  5. dmarijohn says:

@thaipulsedotcom I agree. Want to see the “headquarters” office where you are able to focus and get most of your blogging done.

  6. dmarijohn says:

Darren, thank you to you and your family for taking time to share with all of us. We are keeping things balanced by having time zones in our day, week and month, just as you do. But, we keep it all flexible to fit our family’s needs. Rigid scheduling comes off to my family as selfish and self-centered, even if I mean it to be helpful. So, I’m learning to keep it fun and flexible.

@AmazingAaronTV yes I need to play more with the focusing in video – this was my first one with the GF1 so hopefully next time will be better :-)

  11. darrenrowse says:

    @ceairamoorejm glad it helped!

  12. darrenrowse says:

@clarekelway when you work it out – please do tell :-)

  13. darrenrowse says:

@kimsherri I’ve made a summary of how I make money blogging at ProBlogger

Ultimately its about construction an audience and then making money from that traffic either directly by promotion advertising or doing some affiliate marketing – or indirectly by promotion yourself in some way (either as a consultant, promotion a product of your own etc).

  14. darrenrowse says:

    @JoshRimer fantastic strategy Josh

  15. clarekelway says:

Fantastic video! As a mom to three boys working from home, I really relate! I like your tips about getting priorities right even when time is really tight! We have to learn the right definition of focus. I am still working on it…

  16. ceairamoorejm says:

Fantastic video I am new to blogging and always find it hard to balance all such as family, school, work, blogging, and I must say this video has helped! Thanks So Much ! You are fantastic!

  17. asittingducktv says:

Fantastic Camera. I have a flash animation series but I am tempted to buy one of these cameras, as the animations take weeks to make!.

    Thanks Darren :]

  18. JoshRimer says:

Nice video – looks fantastic and the kid is a cutie! I find the work/life balance a struggle too. Still figuring it out, but mainly I’m just making the personal stuff more of a priority now and committing to things with friends and family and just sticking to it regardless of if I feel my work isn’t done and I’d like to “just one more hour”. :-)

  19. kimsherri says:

I see it is a job for you, but does it earn you income? and if it does could you share how it does that? thank you

  20. meltingmamamelted says:

You have a gorgeous child! And, I like this video camera… going to check it out on amazon now.

  21. darrenrowse says:

@benwhitecomau the video was shot on a panasonic GF1 – fantastic for shallow DOF although I need to turn off the facial auto focus as it seems to have gotten a small confused – next time :-)

  22. benwhitecomau says:

Fantastic video! Balance has to be kept at the forefront. Are you going to give some insight into that shallow depth of field video? Looked fantastic And again, fantastic message

  23. richiemontalbo says:

cool tips! i’m not yet a family man but this tips will be handy once I become one and if I pursue problogging too.

    Thanks!

  24. AmazingAaronTV says:

Fantastic video! I like the way the video is focused on you with a blurred background. I noticed that the focus on the camera kept jumping nearly in parts. Is that since you did not have the focal point locked down? My camera lets me lock the focal point on a subject, but once you start taping its stuck there so the subject has to stay where it was in scene or it gets blurry.

  25. deakaztv says:

    Fantastic touch, and pirate hat!

I agree, it’s vital to set a specific time to get things done, especially when you have a family. I’m only 22, so I don’t have those responsibilities, which does make it harder to be more disciplined.
